Christmas Wish: Bringing Sisters Together

Sisterhood.  There is no better friend than a sister.

And that's how Jes from Whiting, NJ feels about her sister Terry.

Jes's Christmas Wish Letter

Dear Star 99.1’s Christmas Wish,

Growing up, the best part of having a sister was that I always had a friend.  And I had that in my older sister, Terry.

As kids on Christmas Eve, we had a tradition of camping out on the floor underneath the Christmas tree watching Christmas movies, all while waiting for Santa to come down the chimney.  As much as we tried, we were never able to stay awake through the night and in the wee hours of the morning, one of us would wake the other up and together we’d inspect all of our presents before mom and dad filed down the stairs.

Fast forward to today, many years have gone by.  And now thousands of miles separate Terry and me, as she lives in Alabama.  And it’s hard to believe that even with all of the warm memories of Christmases past, it’s been more than ten years since we’ve spent a Christmas together.

2018 hasn’t been easy for Terry as she and her husband are not doing well.  She loves him, but he’s asked for some space.  So this Christmas, Terry’s going to be all alone.  Without her husband.  And without her kids.

My Christmas wish is to travel to Alabama to re-create the Christmas memories that Terry and I had, but this time with my three-year-old twin nephews – sprawled out on the couch with warm blankets and a bowl of hot popped popcorn and Christmas cookies in the oven.  Watching their favorite Christmas movies while waiting for Santa to come down the chimney.

Star 99.1’s Christmas Wish, please send me to Alabama.  I want nothing more than to get in my car and drive to surprise Terry and my three-year-old twin nephews, but airplane tickets are way outside of my budget and my car is in no condition to make the drive to Alabama.

Please make it so my sister doesn’t have to spend Christmas alone.  Without her husband.  And her boys.

Jes, from Whiting, New Jersey
