Friends come and friends go, but a true friend sticks by you like family. (Proverbs 18:24)

Candice's Christmas Wish Letter

Dear Star 99.1’s Christmas Wish,

Please allow me to introduce you to my good friend Joe.  This man has a heart of gold.  Every single week, he’s helping teenagers draw closer to God by teaching the youth at your church.  He’s a fitness fanatic and in his spare time, he’s training and competing in races to bring awareness to homelessness, addictions, and hunger.  No one has a heart for the “least of these” like Joe.

Because of all of the good that Joe’s doing, you’d think everything at home for him would be easy and all put together.  But that’s furthest thing from the truth.

You see, Joe’s a single dad.  And like so many others today, Joe’s raising kids on his own.  But you’ll never hear this man complain, even though he’s doing twice the work…. And taking on twice the stress.  Through it all, Joe continues to be an inspiration to others.  He didn’t set out to be a single dad, but he did set out to be the best dad that could be.  And even though he’s doing this on his own, that hasn’t changed.  He really is a good dad.

Star 99.1’s Christmas Wish, my wish is for Joe to receive a brand new washing machine.

On top of everything that he’s already doing as a single dad, he has to find the time to go to the laundromat to make sure that there’s plenty of clean clothes for his kids.

I know it doesn’t seem like much, but I know it would mean the world to Joe and his kids.  No more going to the bank to get rolls of quarters.  No more hours waiting for the machine to finish, only to realize that the clothes are just not dry yet.  No more hurrying to fold the clothes while watching the clock to make sure that he picks up the kids in time.  No more realizing that he forgot his Tide – and then realizing that he doesn’t have enough quarters to put their things in the dryer.

With a brand new washer and dryer in the house, Joe will never again open the drawer of his kid’s dresser to find that they’re out of socks.   And that they have shirts, but no pants.

Please Star 99.1, grant my Christmas wish for Joe.  He gives everything to everyone in his world.  Now, it’s time for us to give back to him.
