College Students Bring Joy to Sick Children

January 17, 2017 | Mysti Jordan

As a kid sick in a hospital, few things are more depressing than that constant hospital environment. Anything to break up the monotony of your medical routine and those same four walls of your room brings a little bit of joy.

There’s a nonprofit called A Moment in Magic based out of the Bronx that understands this, and they visit kiddos in the hospital dressed up as princesses. What's really unique about this particular organization is that it’s comprised of college student volunteers who give up their free time to get dolled up as different Disney princesses. Not only that, but it was actually started by a college student.

Kylee McGrane got the idea for this project when she was watching Frozen a few years ago, and she noticed that both she and her friend Maggie looked a lot like Elsa. They had both been looking for some way to help people, and they realized that they could impersonate these characters and visit sick kiddos.

Right now, A Moment in Magic has 40 volunteers, and since its inception in 2015, they’ve visited over 5000 children.
