A lot of us think back to our high school sweethearts fondly, even though that relationship didn’t work out. Well, imagine that after 64 years, you were reunited with that person.
Joyce Kevorkian and Jim Bowman dated during their senior year back in 1953, but ended up going their separate ways when they went off to college, as many people do. They both wound up being happily married to other people, they had children and grandchildren, and then the unthinkable happened after 53 years: Joyce’s husband suffered a stroke and passed away. Her granddaughter says that it was the worst thing that had happened in Joyce’s life and she didn’t handle it well at all and it took a really long time for her to heal.
Then, late last year, out of the blue, she received a letter from Jim, whose wife had recently passed away from Alzeheimers. He was organizing a high school reunion and hoping that she would come. That led to the former sweethearts talking on the phone every night, and in December, Jim drove five hours to reconnect with Joyce, where the two had their first date since 1953.
By the end of the month, Jim had proposed, and they just married on April 1st with the theme of their wedding being "Fools In Love."
