Lean on Me, when you're not strong...

Yeah, it's a song, but it's also what God tells us to do.

Growing up, my family always said I had no patience. I didn't want to be impatient so I kept praying and asking God to give me patience. Do you know what happens when you ask God for patience? Let me tell you... He gives you MANY, MANY opportunities to be patient in. I didn't realize this (or else I wouldn't have kept asking haha) and I kept trying to make it through those situations on my own, in my own strength.

A few years ago while studying the fruits of the spirit, I had a life-changing "ah-ha" moment! In Galatians 5, it talks about how when we live life with God and walk with him by the Spirit, we have the "fruits" of the Spirit in us. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, PATIENCE, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

I don't have to do this on my own?! This is amazing!

I started putting it into practice and the results were fantastic. Any time I felt like I was about to lose my cool or like I was getting very antsy, I would pray, "God, I can't do this on my own. Kristen has no patience but I know you have all the patience. Can you give me your perfect patience right now?" He is so faithful. He always let me lean on His patience, every time.

When I felt like I really got good at leaning on God's patience, I discovered that I really lacked peace often. So I started praying, "God, I feel anxious and overwhelmed, I know that you tell me to be anxious about nothing but I can't do it on my own right now. Can you overwhelm me with your perfect peace?" And guess what... He always does!

Stop trying to do it on your own. God wants us to ask Him for help, He has given us all the tools necessary and He always comes through.
