Giving the gift of a kidney is a pretty big deal. There are people that struggle with that huge decision when it’s someone they know and love, but imagine that someone you just met offered you that incredible gift of life.
Lindsey Bittorf is a police officer, and back in December, she was perusing Facebook when she came across a post from a desperate mother whose eight-year-old son, Jackson, needed a kidney. She was begging for potential donors because they were out of options and his kidney function was below the thirty percent line. Officer Bittorf had never even met the family, but she was moved to get tested, and as it turns out, she’s a perfect match.
Last week, she surprised the family with the good news that she’s going to donate her kidney to Jackson. She told him, “I took an oath to serve and protect our community and now my kidney is going to serve and protect you.”
They’re scheduled for the transplant on June 22nd, so let's be praying that everything goes smoothly!
