Shawn Stockwell just graduated from high school on Tuesday, and he had a really special moment onstage as he was going up to receive his diploma.
See, Shawn was born with a heart defect so severe that several doctors told his mom, Trista, that he wouldn’t live very long at all. When he was about seven, he and his family went to California with high hopes of a heart transplant, and it was then that he received a healthy heart from seven-year-old Carson who passed away from a brain aneurysm, and then the Stockwells returned home to Alaska.
Tuesday night, not only were Shawn’s parents there to see him walk the stage at his graduation, but Carson’s family made the trip to see that milestone in Shawn’s life, as well. In fact, they were allowed to be the ones to hand Shawn his diploma. Carson’s mom, Jamie, said, “This helps pass along his legacy and keep that memory alive, so it’s very special to us.”
