There’s a trend now where people leave painted rocks for others to find – sometimes in discreet, hard to find places, sometimes out in the open.
Nancy Hicks found one recently by her car as she was leaving a store. It was a rock that had been painted bright pink and it had the word “Hope” on it, along with a ribbon for breast cancer. Theresa, the woman who left it, did it in memory of her dad who passed away from liver cancer. She’s part of a group of volunteers that leaves rocks with encouraging messages on them in random places around their community.
What Theresa couldn’t possibly have realized was that Nancy was a breast cancer survivor, and the gesture meant so much to her that she broke down and cried. She says that she’s holding onto it for the rest of her life.
