What Can You Do?

I made a doctor appointment for 8AM this morning, 3 months ago. I have to be at work by 10AM so I figured this gave me plenty of time to get in! I show up on time and notice another woman waiting outside my doctor's door. Turns out we're on time, my doctor is not. I'm thinking, "well I've still got plenty of time to get to work!" So we chat and wait about 15 minutes before the other woman decides to call the office group.

Turns out, our doctor is no longer at this location at all anymore. She's moved to the practice all the way down in Toms River (an hour from me!) and oh, by the way, she moved 2 months ago! But wait, there's more! The office that we're at doesn't even open on Thursdays anymore! When I called last week to refill a prescription, no one told me my doctor wasn't in that office. And when they texted me yesterday to remind me that my appointment was at 8AM in my Old Bridge office today with my doctor - no one thought "hmm maybe we should call her and tell her this is all a set up and no one will be there!"

I have so much to be angry about in the world's eyes. I am allowed to rant, rave and yell at whoever answers the phone when I call the group number. But in God's eyes... these are people that He loves and adores! And yes, they made many mistakes, many times, over several weeks and caused an inconvenience for me. But when I called the group, I was forgiving and kind. And that's only because I have God working in me. In my flesh, I was fuming, but when I let God take control and work through me, He gave me grace and gentleness.

The woman on the other end of the line was so apologetic and thankful for my kind responses. It wasn't me! The credit goes to God! And I am so thankful for the opportunity He gave me to be obedient to Him today. To see these people as God's children and treat them the way I would want to be treated if I made a mistake like that.

Sometimes life doesn't go the way you want it to or expect it to. But God is faithful all the time and when we have the opportunity to look like Jesus in the middle of chaos, other people notice. Hopefully, they'll want some Jesus for themselves! But if we're cranky, cold and hard to talk to - no one will ever want what we have!
