Who Were You… Before Someone Told You?

When we were little we believed we could do anything and be anyone we wanted to be! I was convinced I could fly if I tried hard enough. We believed we could be astronauts and visit the moon! We believed we could be movie stars and major league baseball players. We believed we were strong, brave, smart, beautiful.

Until someone broke those dreams.

Until someone said, "you have to be really, really smart to be an astronaut," "you're on the bench," "you have a crooked nose."

Who were you before someone told you that you couldn't be that person?

It's easy to agree with people who put us down, to start feeling like that might be exactly who we are. It's easy to think, "man, I always strike out..." "yeah, I do stink at math," "wow, my nose is crooked AND huge!"

But let me tell you something - that's not who you are! It doesn't matter what other people think or foolishly say to you. It only matters what God says about you.

Who does God say I am?

  • I am strong and courageous (Joshua 1:9)
  • I am fearfully made (Psalm 139:14)
  • I am growing when things go wrong (Romans 5:3-5)
  • I am complete in Him (Colossians 2:10)
  • I am alive with Christ (Ephesians 2:5)
  • I am free (John 8:36)
  • I have the peace of God (Philippians 4:7)
  • Greater is He Who is in me than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4)
  • God supplies all of my needs (Philippians 4:19)
  • I can do all things through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:13)
  • I am a child of God (Galatians 3:26)
  • I am God’s workmanship (Ephesians 2:10)
  • I am a new creature in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17)
  • I am more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37)
  • I am an overcomer  (Revelation 12:11)
  • I am the light of the world (Matthew 5:14)
  • I am forgiven (Ephesians 1:7)
  • I am greatly loved by God (John 3:16, Ephesians 2:4; Colossians 3:12; 1 Thessalonians 1:4)
